Man attacked and left with facial injuries after being 'asked for money' on the street

Police have issued an appeal after a man suffered facial injuries after an assault in North Belfast at the weekend.

The victim, aged in his 30s, sustained the injuries following an altercation with two unknown males in the Bilston Road area in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, June 12.

In a post on social media, the victim claimed two men approached him near the entryway near Ballysillan Leisure Centre "asking for money."

After saying he didn't have any, he stated he was assaulted but was able to flee from the attackers.

He added: "It would be helpful if anyone knows of anyone that would have been in the area around that time as I didn't know their faces or any CCTV footage.

"Just making people aware you're not safe in your own area and wouldn't want it to happen to anyone else...am so lucky I managed to get away."

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: "Police received a report of an assault in North Belfast in the early hours of Sunday, June 12.
