Man assaulted in Dundee as police launch major probe

Police have launched a major probe after a man was attacked in Dundee.

Officers cordoned off a block of flats in the city’s Cunningham Street last night.

They responded to reports of a disturbance in the area just after 8pm.

It was later confirmed a 51-year-old man had been assaulted - it is understood he did not require any hospital treatment.

Witnesses described seeing a large police presence, including forensics officers, at the scene through the evening.

Officers sealed off an underground carpark below the residential block of flats.

The incident is the latest in a series of violent attacks that police in Tayside have had to deal with.

Earlier this week a woman was attacked on a public footpath in Arbroath.

The incident happened in the Glenogil Drive area.

While earlier in the week an Eastern European man assaulted another person close to the town’s seafront.

Commenting on last night’s incident in Dundee, a police spokesperson said: ““An investigation is under way following a report a 51-year-old man was assaulted on Cunningham Street, Dundee.

“The incident was reported to police at around 8.10pm on Tuesday.

“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what has happened.”
