Authorities have identified the individual apprehended for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit near the Republican National Convention site in Milwaukee as 21-year-old Donnell Tinsley. The incident occurred on Monday and was detailed in a criminal complaint released by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday.
Law enforcement officers, including Homeland Security Investigations and the United States Capitol Police, were conducting patrols in the RNC exterior zone when they noticed Tinsley donning a ski mask and carrying a 'tactical backpack.' Observing him moving away from an RNC security checkpoint, they decided to investigate further.
Upon searching the backpack, a special agent discovered an AK-47 pistol concealed within. When questioned about possessing a concealed carry permit, Tinsley admitted he did not have one. The search also revealed additional items in the backpack, such as a fully loaded magazine with 7.62X39 caliber rifle ammunition, a 'Scream' movie mask, a flashlight, two sets of black gloves with rubber fingertips, a pair of sunglasses, two cans of spray paint, and multiple empty designer marijuana bags.
The district attorney’s office has not provided information regarding whether Tinsley has legal representation at this time. The situation underscores the importance of adhering to firearm regulations and the potential consequences of carrying weapons unlawfully in restricted areas.
