A man has been arrested after a two-year-old boy died and four adults were injured in a hit-and-run collision in the West Midlands involving a stolen Porsche.

Police were called to the incident in Dartmouth Road in Smethwick, near Birmingham, just before 11pm on Saturday.

The driver of a grey Porsche Cayenne fled the scene after hitting a Toyota Auris carrying the four adults and the boy, West Midlands police said.

The child died after being taken to hospital. A 29-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man remain in hospital in a serious condition, while the conditions of another man and woman, both 30, were described as stable.

A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving on Monday evening after police acted on received information. He remained in custody for questioning, the force added.

Checks on the Porsche involved in the collision revealed it was stolen earlier this month.

Earlier on Monday, police said it was believed the driver of the Porsche was travelling from a roundabout on Kenrick Way before it hit the Toyota on Dartmouth Road. The road was closed in both directions while specialist officers examined the scene but has since reopened.

West Midlands police are still appealing for information or dashcam footage related to the incident.
