A man is in custody after reports of a hate crime at Queen Square bus station.
Last night (Monday, February 20) police officers were called to Queen Square bus station due to reports of an altercation between a man and a woman at one of the stops. When officers arrived it was reported the man had made transphobic slurs towards the woman.
A 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a hate related section 4 aggravated public order offence in relation to the incident. He was taken to a police station where he remains in custody.

A police investigation into the incident is ongoing and they have appealed for anyone with any information or footage of the incident to get in touch.
Sergeant Kai Baker of Merseyside Police said: “We simply will not tolerate such hate speech on Merseyside and I’m sure the overwhelming majority of people would agree that such vile comments have no place in our communities.
“While we have made one arrest, our enquiries into this incident remain ongoing and we’d ask anyone with any information to come forward.
“This occurred in a busy area of Liverpool City Centre last night. If you saw or heard anything or captured any footage on your mobile phone then please let us know. Information you hold could be vital to our ongoing investigation.”
