Gardaí were questioning a man last night – on suspicion of stabbing a pregnant woman.
The Mirror has learned that the man was arrested following an incident in Co Tipperary on Saturday evening.
Sources have confirmed that the pregnant woman was 'stabbed' in the incident.
It’s understood the victim, who is in her 20s, was rushed to hospital after the attack – but neither she nor her unborn child were in any danger.
The Mirror has learned that the incident happened in a house in a town in Tipperary – but we cannot say exactly where for legal reasons.
But sources have confirmed that several people witnessed the attack - and are cooperating with investigating Gardaí.
They said the attack happened after a dispute erupted in the house.
The suspect was quickly arrested and was being questioned by Gardaí last night.
They must either charge or release hum by later today.
Gardaí confirmed the incident happened in a house in a Tipperary town at 6.20pm on Saturday.
Officers have classified it as an assault, but we understand the victim was stabbed.
A Garda spokesman said: “The injured woman, aged in her 20s, was taken to Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise with non-life threatening injuries.
“A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with this incident and is currently being detained at Thurles Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
Sources also confirmed that although the man was being questioned at Thurles garda Station, the attack happened elsewhere in Co Tipperary.
