Man arrested on suspicion of murder after ‘tragic’ fatal stabbing in Southwark

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a fatal stabbing in Camberwell on Friday.

A 38-year-old man was found with stab wounds on Southampton Way, near to the junction with Coleman Way, just before 1.30am.

Despite efforts from police officers and the London Ambulance Service he died at the scene, Metropolitan Police said.

The man’s next of kin have been informed.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder at a home on Southampton Way where the incident happened, the Met said.

He remains in custody at a south London police station.

The victim and the suspect are believed to be known to each other.

As the investigation continues, detectives will remain gathering evidence in the area over the coming days. Police understand there is no wider risk to the community.

Detective Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh, local policing commander in Southwark and Lambeth, said: “This is a tragic incident, and my thoughts are with the man’s family as they come to terms with this awful news.

“We will do everything we can to bring those responsible to justice.

“An extensive investigation is under way and specialist detectives will remain in the area over the coming days as they gather evidence.

“We believe this was an isolated incident with no wider risk to the community. We will also ensure local officers are visible in the area to respond to any local concerns.”
