The man in his 50s arrested in connection with the discovery of the body of Miriam Burns in Kerry earlier this week has been released without charge, gardaí have confirmed.

The body of the 75-year-old grandmother was found at her home in unexplained circumstances in Killarney, Co Kerry on Monday, August 15.

An individual arrested in relation to the discovery, a man in his 50s known to the victim, has been released without charge today.

A file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions, gardaí confirmed.

Investigations in the murder probe are ongoing under the direction of a Senior Investigating Officer.

"Gardaí are continuing to appeal to any persons who were in the Ardshanavooley area of Killarney between 5pm on Friday, 12th August, 2022, and 1pm on Monday, 15th August, 2022, and observed any activity which drew their attention, to come forward," a statement read.

"Any road users who were travelling in the area at these times who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Killarney Garda Station on 064 6671160, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."

It is understood the victim sustained head and neck injuries and was found to have dried blood surrounding those areas.

Local sources told the Irish Independent that Ms Burns had not been seen since last Friday evening.

Gardai now fear the grandmother suffered a violent death at the hands of someone known to her.

They are also investigating whether Mrs Burns was the target of threatening behaviour some time ago and whether that could be linked to the circumstances of her death.
