A man in his 40s has been arrested by gardai after a large cannabis seizure in Cork.
A search was carried out by officers attached to the Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit and Gurranabraher District Drugs Unit on Thursday, February 3.
Gardai arrived at one location in Ballincollig at 7:00 pm where a small amount of cannabis was located alongside paraphernalia and a number of mobile phones.
A follow-up search was conducted at “a nearby residence,” according to gardai, where around 13kg worth of cannabis was found.
The estimated value of the drugs is €260,000, but they have now been sent for further analysis.
One man was arrested at the scene and remains in custody at Bridewell Garda Station detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act 1996.
In a statement released this morning, it was confirmed that: “Gardaí have arrested a man and seized €260,000 in suspected cannabis herb following two searches in Ballincollig, Co.Cork on Thursday, 3rd February 2022.
“Personnel attached to the Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit and Gurranabraher District Drugs Unit conducted a search of a property in Ballincollig at 7pm. A small quantity of suspected cannabis herb was located in this first search, along with drug paraphernalia and a number of mobile phones.
“A follow-up search was carried out at a nearby residence and approximately 13kg of cannabis herb, believed to be valued at €260,000, was seized.
“A man, aged in his 40s, was arrested at the scene and was taken to Bridewell Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act 1996.”
Investigations are ongoing.
