Man arrested in connection with robbery involving screwdriver at Dublin shop

A man has been arrested and charged by Gardaí in Coolock as part of their investigation into a robbery of a shop on Saturday, June 10 in Dublin.

According to Gardaí, during the incident, which occurred at around 9:25pm last night, a male reportedly entered a shop in Artane armed with a screwdriver. He then proceeded to threaten staff in order to obtain the contents of the cash register.

No money was taken during the course of this incident, however, the male did manage to flee the scene on foot with a quantity of alcohol in the direction of Kilmore Road.

Shortly after this, Gardaí arrived at the scene, conducting an extensive search of the area which resulted in one male, who was aged in his 30s, being located and arrested.

In a statement released after his arrest, a spokesperson for the Gardaí said: “Gardaí in Coolock have arrested and charged a man as part of their investigation into a robbery of a business premises that occurred on the evening of Saturday, June 10, in the Dublin 5 area.

“At approximately 9:25pm, it was reported that a male entered a shop in Artane armed with a screwdriver and proceeded to threaten staff in order to obtain the contents of the cash register. No money was taken during the course of this incident.

“The male then fled the scene on foot with a quantity of alcohol in the direction of the Kilmore Road. Gardaí arrived at the scene shortly after and commenced an extensive search of the area which resulted in one male being located and arrested.

“The man, aged in his 30s, was taken to a Garda station in Dublin and detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

"He has since been charged and is expected to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin, Court 4, at 10:30am on Monday, June 12.”
