A man has been arrested in connection with the alleged escape of a former soldier from a Wandsworth prison.
Daniel Khalife, 22, allegedly broke out of Wandsworth prison in September last year after strapping himself to the underside of a food delivery lorry.
A 24-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday morning at an address in east London on suspicion of assisting an offender and taken into custody at a London police station.
He was been bailed to a date in late April.
The man is not a member of staff at HMP Wandsworth.
At the time of the alleged escape, Khalife was awaiting trial on claims he had breached the Official Secrets Act by gathering information that may be useful to an enemy of the UK. It is said he also carried out a bomb hoax and obtained sensitive Army personnel details which would be useful to terrorists.
All of the allegations against Khalife will be heard together in an eight-week trial on October 7.
Detective Chief Superintendent Gareth Rees, of the Met's Counter Terrorism Command, said: "This arrest follows months of careful investigation into the alleged escape and enquiries remain ongoing into this.
“We understand that there will be significant public and media interest in this arrest but with Khalife now charged and awaiting trial, it is extremely important that people do not report, comment or share information - including online - which could in any way prejudice these future court proceedings."
Police said Khalife was arrested on a canal towpath in west London on September 9 after being pulled off a push bike by a plain-clothes counter-terrorism officer.
