A man in his twenties has been arrested following a 'serious assault' on a young woman.
The woman in her 20s was attacked in broad daylight on Sunday afternoon in the Monasterevin area of County Kildare. It is understood that two women came to the assistance of the injured woman.
The man is being held in Kildare Garda Station. Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.

The gardai especially want to speak to the two women who came to the assistance of the injured woman. A spokesman said: "A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with a serious assault on a woman in her 20s which occurred in Monasterevin, County Kildare, on Sunday, 17th July, 2022.
"The man is currently being detained at Kildare Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984." He added that, "investigations into this incident are ongoing".
The garda appeal read: "Gardaí are continuing to appeal to anyone who was in the Monasterevin area on Sunday 17th between 1pm and 5.20pm and who may have footage (including dash-cam) to make that footage available to them. Gardaí would particularly like to speak with two women who assisted the injured party."
