Man arrested by gardai investigating GSOC officer in Gerry Hutch party probe

Gardai investigating the GSOC officer at the centre of the Gerry Hutch party probe controversy have arrested a man following a search of a residence in Dublin this morning.

It is understood the man, in his 60s, made a full admission to investigating gardai this week when asked if he attended the 'welcome home' party last Monday, following The Monk's acquittal in the Regency Hotel murder case.

It's understood that he did not have a personal relationship with Hutch, after agreeing to fully comply with the probe.

Despite this, gardai said that every case the man worked on during his five years of service with GSOC must be investigated. The man at the centre of the probe resigned last Friday and had intended to leave the country before the internal investigation began.

This morning, April 27, gardai attached to the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (GNBCI) investigating certain matters referred to An Garda Siochana by the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission carried out a search at a domestic residence in Dublin 3.

A garda spokesperson said: "A male has been arrested on suspicion of an offence contrary to section 81, Garda Síochána Act 2005."

"The male, in his 60's, is being detained at a Garda Station in the East of the country under section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984.

"As this is an ongoing criminal Investigation An Garda Síochána has no further comment at this time," a garda spokesperson added.
