A well known GAA legend has been arrested by gardai in the eastern region of Ireland in connection with alleged fraud offences.
The man was arrested under the Section 6 Criminal Justice (Theft & Fraud) Offences Act, 2001 and is being held by gardai tonight. He is understood to have been arrested earlier today.
It follows an ongoing crime investigation into allegations that the man attempted to receive money from a number of people in business and sport after claiming he had cancer. Around €1 million is understood to have been received by him.

Garda fraud specialists are understood to be involved in the investigation. A number of alleged victims are also understood to have come forward.
A garda spokeswoman told Dublin Live: "An Garda Síochána does not comment on named persons. Gardaí in the Eastern Region have arrested a male in relation to an ongoing investigation into an alleged fraud."
