Man arrested after woman killed in alleged hit and run on Scots street

A 63-year-old man has been arrested after a woman tragically died in a suspected 'hit and run' near Falkirk.

April Mitchell was knocked down on the A872 at Avonside Drive, Denny, at around 12.30am on Thursday, December 15. Emergency services raced to the scene but the 53-year-old, from Dunipace, was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Police initially closed the road between Stirling and Dunipace in an attempt to locate the vehicle involved, and launched an investigation into the incident to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death.

Now, officers have confirmed that a man has been arrested in connection with the fatal crash. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. In the meantime, the community has been praised for their help during the enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Chris Scott of Falkirk CID said: “I’d like to thank the community for their support and assistance throughout this investigation.”
