A man has been arrested after a suspected overnight arson attack in Mansfield. Police and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of a fire inside a flat in Garratt Avenue, Mansfield, at around 12.15am on Thursday, March 31.

Firefighters gained entry to the property, put the blaze out and safely rescued two women - no injuries were reported. Police officers then arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

He was further arrested on suspicion of racially-aggravated public order after officers were verbally abused. Detective Sergeant Jamie Moore, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Arson attacks are always treated extremely seriously by the force and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of this incident.
