A man has been arrested after a teenage girl was allegedly raped in a playground in east London.
The incident reportedly happened at roughly 9.30pm on Tuesday, in a playground near Canada Road - a residential cul-de-sac in Erith.
Scotland Yard confirmed an 18-year old man was arrested near the scene on suspicion of rape.
He was taken into custody and later released on bail pending further enquiries.
Police temporarily guarded the scene in Canada Road as detectives investigated, but have since left.
Detective Inspector Mark Paterson leading the investigation from the Met’s Safeguarding Team, said: “Importantly, the young victim and her family are being supported by specially trained officers at this unimaginably difficult time.
“I understand that this is an extremely concerning incident and I want to offer reassurance that detectives are conducting a full and thorough investigation to bring the person responsible to justice.
“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed anything, no matter how insignificant you may think it to be, to get in touch without delay.”
Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 and give reference 8033/ 15 August.
