Man arrested after 'shots fired' on small cul-de-sac

A man has been arrested after gunshots were reportedly fired on a street in Leigh. Four shots were heard in quick succession on Ribble Grove earlier this month.

A red Audi A3 style car was in the area at the time police say. An investigation was launched after people living in the area reported hearing loud bangs at around 1:30am in the early hours of Saturday, July 9.

Detectives now say they believe a firearm was used.

A man was arrested in connection with the "serious" incident on Ribble Grove, which is a small cul-de-sac off Mersey Street in the built-up, residential Firs Lane area of the town..

He has since been bailed Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed.

The force has stressed their investigation is ongoing and they are now appealing for anyone who may be able to help with their enquiries to come forward.

Officers will continue to revisit the area, GMP say, with locals being encouraged to submit any details they have, or witness to them directly and in confidence.

“After conducting extensive enquiries we are now in a position to appeal to the public for their help" Detective Inspector Zoe Nightingale said.

“This is a serious incident where we believe a firearm has been used. We are working hard to ensure the local community are kept safe.

“We received reports at the time of the incident due to the loud noises made and are urging for anyone who has any information to get in touch so we can make sure no stone is left unturned.”
