A police officer has been hailed as “incredible” for taking down a man pointing a pistol at him in Camden.
Social media footage shows the motorcycle officer wrestling with a driver after he failed to stop at 7.40am on Friday.
The chase ended when his silver SUV crashed into a bollard in the middle of the road in Mornington Crescent.
Mobile phone camera footage shows the officer pinning the man to the floor before he slips his grasp and stands up.
The lone motorcycle cop backs away as the man draws a black pistol from his waistband, drops it but picking it back up and taking aim.
The quick-thinking cop bravely drawers his taser and walks towards the gun - later revealed to be a replica- before knocking the man over again and making the arrest.
The alleged gunman was arrested on suspicion of possesion of a firearm.
He has been taken to hospital before going into police custody.
Police seized the firearm and said after initial testing it is thought to be a replica.
Chief Superintendent Roy Smith said: “We are aware of a video circulating online and can assure the public we are taking care of the officer’s welfare.
“His actions in the circumstances are nothing short of incredible. He had no idea if the item being pointed at him was a replica or a lethal weapon and yet he maintained his composure and detained the suspect.
“Each day police officers put on the uniform and put themselves in danger to protect Londoners. This is a perfect example of the bravery and selflessness that they exhibit so often.”
