A man was arrested after police closed the M53 in both directions.
Officers stopped traffic on junction 3, A552 Woodchurch Road (Woodchurch) of the motorway after reports of a man close to the carriageway just before 11.50am. Traffic was diverted using the entry and exit slips of the motorway as police dealt with the incident.
Officers at the scene warned drivers and passengers to stay in their vehicles. There was also congestion reportedly building to junction 4 (Bebington) of the motorway and heading North and also back to junction 2 (Moreton Spur) heading South.

Merseyside Police said officers attended and the man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of affray and causing a public nuisance. He is currently in custody.
Traffic has since returned to normal. A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We were called just before 11.50am today, Tuesday, May 24 to reports of a man close to the carriageway of the M53 in Wirral. Officers attended and the man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of affray and causing a public nuisance. He is currently in custody."
