Man arrested after Maltesers and air fresheners stolen from Poundland

A man was arrested after items including Maltesers and Air Wick fresheners were reported stolen from a Merseyside Poundland.

Merseyside Police say they were alerted that a male had stolen the items from the store in St Helens. A man was detained nearby and the items were ultimately recovered.

A man from Thatto Heath was arrested on suspicion of theft.

Police shared a tongue in cheek statement on social media. It said: "A male from the Thatto Heath area was arrested this morning by officers from Team 3 on suspicion of theft from a shop.

"Well done to vigilant staff at Poundland in Lagrange who challenged the male and informed a passing PCSO. The description was circulated and the male was detained nearby.

"Most of the items were recovered by staff before the suspect left, but the remaining items were recovered by officers and returned to the store. Imagine sat at home, eating Maltesers, with the sweet smell of ‘Fresh Spring Forest’ filling your lungs…

"Now imagine sitting in a cell, eating a microwave ‘all day breakfast’ with the sweet smell of the previous occupant filling your lungs. The choice is yours."
