Man arrested after gun fired during street fight

A man has been arrested in connection to a shooting in Walton.

On Tuesday, February 21, at around 1.55pm, police attended the scene of a fight near Delamore Street. Witnesses claimed to see a gang of men fighting, before a gun was fired by one of the men and the rest ran off.

Two suspects ran in the direction of Delamore Street and the others made off towards Cairo Street. No injuries were reported after the incident but a large police cordon was put in place.

Now police can confirm that a 22-year-old man, from Everton, has been arrested on multiple offences, including possession of a firearm. He was in custody from Monday, March 13, but has now been conditionally bailed.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said : " Detectives have arrested a man in connection with a shooting in Walton in February. Officers were contacted at 1.55pm on Tuesday 21 February after witnesses reported a group of men fighting in the street.

"It was also reported that one of the men had fired a gun. Two men then fled towards the alleyway on the side of Delamore Street and the others made off towards Cairo Street.

"No injuries were reported to police. On Monday, 13 March, a man was stopped on Lark Lane and detained.

"A 22-year-old man from Everton was arrested on suspicion of Possession of a firearm with intent; Section 18 wounding; and Possession of cannabis. He was taken to a police station for questioning by detectives.

"The man has now been been conditionally bailed pending further enquiries. Anyone who has information on this incident is asked to DM @MerPolCC, call 101 or contact @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 23000151963."
