A man has been arrested after a fire broke out in the stairwell of a block of flats in Musselburgh last night.
Fire crews scrambled to Bellfield Court after the alarm was raised at around 8.45pm on Wednesday April 20.
Residents were evacuated onto the street after the blaze took took hold as firefighters arrived at the scene.
They were checked over by paramedics whilst waiting to be allowed back into their properties.
Police have now said a 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Enquiries are ongoing.
One local told Edinburgh Live : “It looked like quite a big one, I hope everyone got out ok.
“I could see a big group of people standing outside, so it looked like everyone got out safe."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a fire in a stairwell at Bellfield Court in Musselburgh around 9pm on Wednesday, 20 April.
“A number of properties in the block were evacuated safely and the occupants checked at the scene by the Scottish Ambulance Service.
“The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
“A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.”
