Man arrested after cannabis worth €188k found at Dublin Port

A man has been arrested after cannabis worth €188k was found during a search at Dublin Port.

The illegal drugs were discovered concealed in the cab of a truck that had arrived from the UK. The driver, a man in his 30s, was arrested by and taken to a Garda Station in the capital.

Revenue detector dog Robbie assisted with the search. The overall weight of the drugs found was around 9.4kg.

There was also a discovery of 12,000 unstamped cigarettes following the search, under warrant, of a residential premises in Rathkeale, Co Limerick. They were found with the help of Revenue dog Obi and gardai.

A Revenue spokesman said: 'These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting smuggling, shadow economy activity and the supply of illegal tobacco products. If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on phone number 1800 295 295."
