A man has handed himself in to police after a girl who was on a school excursion in Melbourne's CBD was allegedly targeted in an abduction attempt.
Victoria Police on Wednesday appealed to the public to help track down the man they believed targeted the 14-year-old, who was walking with a group at Hosier Lane about 10.30am on November 15.
She was left shaken after a man allegedly approached her and tried to drag her away before she was saved by a good Samaritan who intervened by pretending to be a teacher, police said.
The teenager, who asked to remain anonymous, told reporters on Wednesday she and her classmates were split into groups and tasked with capturing famous landmarks and places in Melbourne before the alleged incident.
Police on Thursday announced they had arrested a 37-year-old Thornbury man over the alleged abduction attempt after he handed himself in at a police station.
Officers were interviewing him as of Thursday afternoon.
