Man arrested after 39-year old is hospitalised after being injured by knife in Winlaton

Police have arrested a man in connection with an alleged attack which left a man seriously injured in Gateshead.

Officers were called to Langdale Crescent in Winlaton on Friday evening after receiving a report of an assault. A man, aged 39, was found with injuries believed to have been caused by a bladed article.

He was taken to hospital for treatment but has since been discharged. Northumbria Police have now confirmed that a 25-year-old has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Part of Langdale Crescent was taped off by officers on Friday and the cordon remained in place on Saturday morning while investigations continued.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly after 6.30pm on Friday (September 2) police were alerted by the ambulance service to a report of an assault on Langdale Crescent in Gateshead. Emergency services attended the scene and found a 39-year-old man with injuries consistent with being caused by a bladed article.

"The man was taken to hospital by ambulance but has since been discharged."

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police later confirmed that a 35-year-old man has since been charged with a number of offences in connection with the incident. He will appear at Newcastle Crown Court in November.

They said: "I can confirm a 35-year-old man was arrested and has since been charged with wounding with intent to commit GBH, possession of an offensive weapon and possessing a Class C drug."

He is due to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on November 4.
