South Australia Police said there are reports a 10-year-old boy was swept off rocks at about 9.40am.

A man, who was fishing off the rocks, reportedly jumped into the ocean to rescue the boy.

They said he managed to bring the boy to safety but then met with difficulty in the water.

Paramedics assisted the man, who is in a serious but stable condition.
