Man and woman taken to hospital with 'serious injuries' following Gateshead collision

A 57-year-old man and 56-year-old woman have been taken to hospital with 'serious injuries' following a collision in Gateshead.

Police received a report of a two-vehicle collision just after 12.30pm on Friday, June 3 on the A694 at the junction with Noel Avenue and Derwenthaugh Country Park in Winlaton, Gateshead.

It was reported that a red Vauxhall Astra had been travelling east when it collided with a motorbike that was travelling west.

Emergency services have said the pair were taken to hospital with 'serious, non-life-threatening' injuries. The driver of the car remained at the scene and is now said to be assisting police with their enquiries. The was closed for three hours between Thornley Lane and the B6317 Shibdon Road.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 12.30pm on Friday (June 3), police received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A694 at the junction with Noel Avenue and Derwenthaugh Country Park in Winlaton, Gateshead.

“It was reported that a red Vauxhall Astra had been travelling east when, for reasons to be established, [it] collided with a motorbike that was travelling west.

“Emergency services attended where a 57-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman were taken to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the car remained at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries. The road was closed for around three hours.
