Two people have been airlifted to hospital following a crash between two motorbikes on a major road in the Highlands. The smash took place on the A9, Victoria Road, in the village of Brora.
Mercy crews, including Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service, raced to the scene shortly before 11.30am today. One woman was rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, and a man was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness following the collision.
The extent of the bikers' injuries is not yet known, nor is their current condition.
The A9 - one of Scotland's most dangerous roads - was closed for around six hours while a police investigation into the incident got underway, with officers remaining at the crash site.
Traffic Scotland warned that delays were expected, and motorists were advised to avoid the area or use an alternative route if possible. The road has since reopened.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to a report of a crash between two motorcycles on the A9 Victoria Road, Brora around 11.20am on Tuesday, September 20.
“A woman was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and a man was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. The road is currently closed between Golspie and Brora with a diversion via Lairg in place.”
