Man allegedly stole from shop in Oldham... he was hit by a car as he tried to escape

A man was hit by a car as he tried to escape from the scene of a suspected shop theft in Oldham.

The suspect, believed to be in his 20s, was taken to hospital in a with a fractured skull following the collision on Beal Road in Shaw.

His injuries are believed to be serious, but not life-threatening.

Emergency services were scrambled to the area shortly after 6pm on Wednesday evening to reports that a car had collided with a person.

Beal Lane at the roundabout near the Yodel Distribution Centre was sealed off by police as they carried out their enquiries.

The road has since re-opened but officers are still investigating the incident.

A GMP spokesperson said: "The incident was a result of a suspected theft from a shop where the male ran onto the road and was hit by a vehicle.

"Officers are still investigating and enquiries are ongoing.

"The casualty's injuries are believed to be serious but not life threatening. He is believed to have sustained a fractured skull."
