A man has been charged by police in Western Australia after he allegedly kidnapped a nine-year-old girl from a Perth park and indecently dealt with her at a nearby home.

Ashley James Bropho is accused by police of approaching the young girl, who was not known to him, at a park on Tuesday morning in Doubleview, in the city's north-western suburbs.

The 39-year-old allegedly coerced the girl to a nearby residence where he indecently dealt with her.

The girl was able to leave the house and alert family members about the incident, police said.

A short time later, Mr Bropho was taken into custody and was charged by detectives from the WA Police Child Abuse Squad.

Mr Bropho, from Doubleview, has been charged with two counts of indecently dealing with a child under 13, one count of kidnapping and one count of encouraging a child to engage in sexual behaviour.

Police oppose bail 'in strongest terms'

Mr Bropho, wearing a black T-shirt and sporting a greying beard, appeared in Perth Magistrates Court today.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Mark Williams said he would be opposing bail in the "strongest terms".

Magistrate Peter Malone said he could not make a determination on any bail application until Mr Bropho's suitability for home detention had been determined.

The court heard Mr Bropho was receiving support from Outcare, an organisation that "provides justice and reintegration services to help people engage positively with community".

Senior Constable Williams said he had only had a carer for a short time when the alleged offences occurred.

Mr Brophos lawyer, Elliott Tilbury, sought a suppression order on his client's identity.

But it was refused by Magistrate Malone, who did not agree identifying Mr Bropho would jeopardise his chance of a fair trial.

He will remain in custody until his next court appearance on July 27.
