Police are searching for a man who allegedly tried to rob another man of his pokie winnings by offering him a ride home in Adelaide's north-eastern suburbs.

The alleged victim had won several thousand dollars while playing the pokies at a hotel on North Terrace in Adelaide CBD earlier this month.

The suspect offered to drive the alleged victim in his black Ford Ranger about 3:30am on August 6.

While driving in Windsor Gardens, the man allegedly hit the victim several times on the head with a tyre lever, demanding he hand over his winnings.

The victim managed to run away with his money.

Police have released images of the suspect and his vehicle, urging the public to contact Crime Stoppers with information.
