Man Accused of Stabbing Wife Called 12-Year-Old Who Dialed 911 to Convince Her to Change Her Story: Prosecutors

A Chicago man has been arrested after allegedly killing his wife by stabbing her and then persuading their young children to lie about the incident.

A 12-year-old girl called 911 to report her father had stabbed her mother on Saturday. Officers responded to the 2700 block of West Balmoral around 11:25 pm, where they found a 29-year-old victim with multiple stab wounds lying in bed. The knife used to attack her was still lodged in her body, reported CWB Chicago.

The victim's husband, 35-year-old Nurmuhammed Inus, was charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday.

On the night of the murder, Inus allegedly entered his own room where his wife had been sitting on the edge of the bed while speaking on the phone and began an argument with his wife, accusing her of infidelity. The argument could be heard by Inus' children in the next room over.

The couple's two eldest children, aged 12 and 8, watched their father leave the bedroom, retrieve a knife from the kitchen and return. They then ran into their parents' bedroom after hearing their mother begin screaming.

The children walked in on Inus on top of their mother with his hands around her throat, choking her. They heard Inus accuse her of cheating and tell her he was going to kill her, before running back into their room and locking the door.

Before police arrived at the scene, Inus fled and called the victim's siblings, his in-laws, who then travelled to the house. Inus was told by law enforcement to surrender at the Lincoln (20th) District police station, which he did shortly before midnight.

Inus proceeded to call his sister on Sunday, and both Inus and his sister spoke to his 12-year-old child, attempting to convince the child to provide an alternative statement concerning the events of that night. However, both the 12-year-old and the 8-year-old provided information supporting the state's allegations in interviews.

Further review indicated that Inus' wife had called law enforcement to report domestic violence repeatedly in the past.

On April 11, days before her murder, Inus' wife told police that Inus physically assaulted her by pushing her to the ground and slapping her in the face during an argument in which he tried to get her to leave the home. Inus fled before CPD arrived.

During two incidents in November 2024, Inus' wife told police that he was "going crazy in the home and she doesn't know what's going on" and he had been yelling and cursing at her, and she was afraid he would assault her.
