A teenager charged over the murder of a man at the Canberra Hospital last month has also been charged with resisting police's attempts to collect forensic material from his hands.
Aleu Mapiou, 18, is accused of killing Dusko Culibrk, 38, during what police described as "an altercation" in the hospital's Adult Mental Health Unit.
Mr Mapiou was connected to the ACT Magistrates Court today by telephone but a corrections officer told the court he had asked to make it clear he would say nothing.
Although his lawyer indicated Mr Mapiou would plead not guilty to murder.
During the brief mention of the case, prosecutors also laid two new charges after Mr Mapious allegedly resisted officers who were trying to collect forensic material from his hands and fingernails.
Members of Mr Culibrk's family were in court on Monday.
Staff at the mental health unit had already restrained Mr Mapiou before police arrived.
Hospital staff tried to revive Mr Culibrk but were not successful.
Police say the pair had only known each other for a few days.
Few details have been revealed about the incident, but police said they did not believe a weapon was involved.
The case is expected to be back in court in February.
