A man has been accused of a serious family violence attack inside a car park at the Australian National University, police say
ACT Policing said the assault took place early on Wednesday morning at the university's Baldessin car park near Childers Street.
Police said the 42-year-old man and a woman drove to the location in Acton about 4am on August 7.
It is alleged the man assaulted and injured her after stepping out of the vehicle.
Police said the woman called a worker nearby and ANU security staff for help. The alleged offender is believed to have left the scene around that time.
The alleged assault was reported to police at 2pm after which officers spoke to a multiple witnesses and reviewed CCTV footage of the location.
Police say they saw the man later that night about 11.10pm on Mort Street in Braddon.
The alleged offender was arrested and charged with family violence-related aggravated assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
On Wednesday night, he was also accused of planning to commit theft and police charged him with going equipped for theft.
The man in his 40s faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday where he was denied bail. He is set to return to court at a later date.
Police said they would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident at the ANU.
