Man accused of assaulting police officer has bail denied after mooning judge

A man has had bail denied after mooning the judge during an emergency hearing.

Hassan Chokr appeared in court via video-link over charges of assault with a deadly weapon and assaulting a police officer.

During the hearing, Chokr, who was appearing from jail, had to be muted after a loud outburst against the judge and the court.

As the judge tried to continue the hearing, Chokr dropped his trousers and mooned the court.

At the height of Covid, Chokr allegedly assaulted a female volunteer at the Islamic Center of America on Ford Road and was chased by Dearborn police down the street as he carried a gun.

The judge Chokr decided to moon, Wayne County 3rd District Court Judge Regina Thomas, was the same one who released him on a $10,000 bond when the alleged assault first happened.

Chokr is a resident of Dearborn, Detroit.

This was the second run in Chokr had with a judge that week, having allegedly flipped off Judge Nelson-Klein and called her a "Jewish b***h" at a court appearance on Monday December 5 over charges of ethnic intimidation.

On Friday December 2 he allegedly went to a Bloomfield Hills synagogue and made racist threats to parents, children and security.

He was arrested following reports of making the threats but police had to release him due to insufficient evidence.

Chokr remained free until police uncovered a video that he himself had posted allegedly showing him intimidating parents dropping their children off at daycare.

In his tirade at court on Monday, he said: "Your system's going to collapse. You're taking my freedom of speech away, my freedoms away - at the end of the day, your freedoms are going to be stripped away from you.

"You will not see heaven, and you will be doomed to hell and you will see that my words are true.

"You go ahead and give me that harsh punishment, and you will see the punishment that God's going to give you.

"I'm a God-fearing man and I don't hurt nobody. I don't have no intent to hurt nobody. I was exercising my freedom of speech."

His bond for the racist intimidation charges have now been set at $1 million but Chokr is likely to remain in Oakland County Jail.

"I understand his bond is million dollars in Oakland County. I don’t know if he can make that,” said Thomas.
