AN 84-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the death of a woman in Galashiels in the Scottish Borders.
Officers were called at 3am on Monday, December 9, following the death of a woman at a property on Wood Street.
The 84-year-old woman, Margaret Maude Hanson, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Scotland has released a statement from the victim's family, which said: "Margaret will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. We would ask that our privacy is respected at this very difficult time."
Debbie Duncan, detective inspector on the case, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Margaret who are being supported by specialist officers.
"We would again ask that their privacy is respected at this time."
The 84-year-old man is due to appear at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Tuesday, December 10.
