An elderly man was rushed to hospital after being hit by a car in Oldham.

The crash happened on Beal Lane in the Shaw area at around 9pm last night (Saturday). A man, aged 80, 'fell into the passing car' as it drove westbound near the junction with Duke Street.

He was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the car - which was a white Hyundai - remained at the scene, police said.

No arrests were made. A cordon was put in place after the incident as police officers and paramedics responded.

The road was taped off near the Duke Street junction until this morning as investigations were carried out overnight. In a statement issued last night, Greater Manchester Police said they believed the man was aged in his 50s.
