Man, 80, left in serious condition after crash with BMW

An 80-year-old man has been left in serious condition after a crash involving a BMW in Wallasey.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Alderley Road at around 12pm today following reports a driver had collided with another car.

An was also called to the scene and landed nearby in Central Park.

Merseyside Police confirmed a silver Volkswagen Polo, being driven at slow speed, collided with a blue BMW.

The 80-year-old driver of the Polo was taken by ambulance to hospital where he is being treated.

His condition is described as serious.

According to eye witnesses at the scene, there were seven police cars in attendance.

Police cordoned off Alderley Road and adjoining Poulton Road.

A police spokesperson said: "Merseyside Police Roads Policing Unit is appealing for witnesses after a serious injury road traffic collision on the Wirral this afternoon (Saturday, 1 February).

"At around 12pm, a silver Volkswagen Polo, being driven at slow speed, collided with a blue BMW on Alderley Road, Wallasey.

"The 80-year-old driver of the Volkswagen Polo was taken by ambulance to hospital where he is being treated.

"His condition is described as serious. There are no other reported injuries."
