A man is in hospital following a serious assault in broad daylight in Prestwick Main Street.
The 57-year-old has been taken to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment to a serious head injury.
He was found injured yesterday at around 4.30pm.
A police cordon remains in place this morning at the lane which leads past the headquarters of Streamline Taxis.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 4.30pm on Thursday, officers were called to a report of a 57-year-old man having been seriously assaulted in Main Street, Prestwick.
"He was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow to be treated for a serious head injury.
"This appears to have been an isolated incident and we do not believe there is any risk to the wider public.
"There will be a continued police presence in the local area as our investigation continues.
"Officers are following a positive line of enquiry."
