Man, 57, in hospital after being found on street following serious assault

Police have launched an investigation after a man was found seriously injured on a busy Prestwick street yesterday.

Emergency services raced to Main Street after reports of a man having been seriously assaulted at around 4.30pm.

The 57-year-old was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with a serious head injury.

Police say this appeared to be an isolated incident and said they do not believe there is any risk to the wider public.

Officers remain at the scene whilst investigations are carried out.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 4.30pm on Thursday, 12 May, 2022, officers were called to a report of a 57-year-old man having been seriously assaulted in Main Street, Prestwick.

"He was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow to be treated for a serious head injury.

"This appears to have been an isolated incident and we do not believe there is any risk to the wider public.

"There will be a continued police presence in the local area as our investigation continues.

"Officers are following a positive line of enquiry."
