Man, 51, dies in second fatal motorbike crash in Northern Territory this week

Police say the crash happened 20 kilometres from the Stuart Highway on Sunday morning. (ABC News: Michael Franchi)

A man has died in a motorbike crash south of Alice Springs, days after police raised concerns about the growing road death toll in the Northern Territory.

Police say the 51-year-old crashed his bike off Maryvale Road, around 20 kilometres from the Stuart Highway, just before 9:30am on Sunday.

People at the scene began CPR before police and paramedics arrived but the man was declared deceased a short time later.

Police established a crime scene but a spokesman said the incident was not being treated as suspicious.

Crash investigators are investigating the circumstances of the accident.

The man's death brings the NT road toll to 21. This time last year it stood at 10.

It happened in the same week a man in his 20s died in a motorbike crash in Palmerston, near Darwin, and a 47-year-old man was killed in a crash near the Central Australian community of Ampilawatja, 300 kilometres north-east of Alice Springs.
