A 42-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder over what the PSNI has described as a "domestic incident" on Friday.
The man is due to appear in court on Monday.
He is being held in custody until the court appearance, police say.
A spokesperson for the PSNI said: "Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Public Protection Branch have charged a 42-year-old man with attempted murder.
"He has also been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault and two counts of witness intimidation.
"The charges follow a domestic incident in the Kilkeel area on Friday, 30th June."
The police spokesperson added: "The man is being held in custody until he appears before Newry Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 3rd July.
"As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service."
