A man in his 40s was seriously injured in an alleged assault in Waterford city on Friday night.
The alleged incident occurred at around 9.10pm on Merchant’s Quay between two men.
Emergency services and gardai rushed to the scene and the man, who suffered head injuries, was taken to University Hospital Waterford.

The scene of the alleged assault remains cordoned off by gardai to allow for forensic examination.
A man in his 20s was arrested by gardai shortly afterwards and remains in custody at Waterford Garda Station.
In a statement gardai said: "Gardaí received a report of an incident of assault that occurred at approximately 9:10 pm yesterday, Friday, 9th of June 2023 in the Merchant’s Quay area of Waterford.
"One man aged in his 40s was conveyed to University Hospital Waterford for treatment of serious injuries sustained as a result of this incident.
"A man aged in his 20s was arrested in relation to this incident. He remains in Garda custody at this time."
