Man, 38, charged with murder by NT police after shooting south of Katherine, near Cutta Cutta Caves

A 38-year-old man has been charged with murder, after a fatal shooting on a property near Katherine on Thursday.

Late Friday night Northern Territory Police said the man, who was taken into custody on Thursday, had been charged with one count of murder.

Police previously reported the arrested man was 36-years-old.

On Thursday, NT Police said a 26-year-old man was allegedly shot dead, following reports of a male intruder on a property near the Cutta Cutta Caves, about 30 kilometres south of Katherine.

Detective Senior Sergeant Jakson Evans said NT Police were called around 4:00am.

"On arrival, police located the body of a male person who was deceased from an apparent gunshot wound," he said.

The 38-year-old man was remanded in custody to appear in Katherine Local Court at a later date.
