Man, 37, stabbed in groin fighting for life after mass brawl in McDonald's

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being stabbed in the groin during a McDonald's brawl.

A bystander stepped in to perform CPR on the 37-year-old man until medics arrived at the scene in Bilston High Street, in Wolverhampton.

The ambulance service raced to the restaurant just before 7pm after two groups of boys began fighting following the clash.

Advanced trauma care was given to the victim - who was in a critical condition - and he was rushed to hospital, reports Birmingham Live.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "A man is critically ill in hospital after he was stabbed during a fight in Wolverhampton last night (Feb 6).

"We understand a disorder broke out in Bilston High Street at around 7pm before moving onto a footbridge by Stonefield Walk, over the Black Country Route, where we believe he was attacked."

The McDonald's restaurant and drive-thru are closed today, with a police van parked outside and a blue tent erected nearby.

A homeless man who asked to remain anonymous said: "I usually sit here every day, there’s a few of us who do.

"I’ve been threatened with stabbing many times. People in cars spit at me as they go through the drive-thru. I just sit here peacefully.

"I don’t have a clue what I’m going to do now it’s closed as we can’t sit in the town centre.

"Thankfully I wasn’t here when it happened or it could have been me."

Police officers in Bilston are carrying out patrols in Bilston town centre this afternoon following the stabbing.

Detective Inspector Chris Fox from West Midlands Police CID, said: "We believe there was a disorder involving two groups of boys which started in McDonald’s in the high street before spilling outside.

"Other people got involved and one man has suffered a stab wound which has left him seriously ill. We’re not aware of anyone else being seriously injured.

"We’re working hard to understand what happened and who was involved. We’ve spoken to some people already but I need anyone who saw what happened or who filmed the incident on their phone to please get in touch.

"They can talk to the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or message us using Live Chat through our website, or call us on 101."

A spokesperson for McDonald's said: "We are aware of an incident which took place in the vicinity of our restaurant in Bilston yesterday and we are supporting the police with their investigation."

A disgruntled customer said: "Crime round here is getting out of hand. They’ve now ruined it for everyone because the restaurant is shut."
