Man, 35, dies after falling from building in Hamilton

A 35-year-old man has died after falling from a building in Hamilton on Friday afternoon.

Emergency services rushed to Almada Street around 3.35pm yesterday and locked down several streets surrounding the area.

A 35-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and a post mortem will take place to establish the exact cause of death. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

Members of the public were urged to avoid the area as Beckford Street, Union Street, Douglas Street, Almada Lane and Montrose Crescent were cordoned off.

South Lanarkshire Council confirmed the roads had reopened after 8am on Saturday.

A spokesperson said: "The roads closed around Almada St, Hamilton, after yesterday's police incident have now reopened."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.35pm on Friday, 21 October, a 35-year-old man fell from a building in Almada Street, Hamilton.

"He was pronounced dead at the scene. A post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death, which is not being treated as suspicious.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
