Man, 30, dies after being attacked in Scots street

A 30-year-old man has died after being seriously assaulted in an Edinburgh suburb on Thursday evening, Police Scotland has confirmed.

Edinburgh Live reports that the incident took place at around 8pm on May 5 in Niddrie, on the south-eastern side of the capital.

Paramedics were called to attend to a casualty on Niddrie Marischal Road at its junction with Niddrie Marischal Grove.

The man was taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where it is reported that he died earlier on Saturday.

His death is being treated as unexplained and officers are appealing to the public for information.

Locals are being told to expect a greater police presence in Niddrie as officers carry out enquiries.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8pm on Thursday, 5 May, 2022, police were called to a report of a 30-year-old man having been seriously assaulted on Niddrie Marischal Road, at its junction with Niddrie Marischal Grove, Edinburgh.

"He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he died on Saturday, 7 May, 2022.

"Officers are treating the death as unexplained and enquiries into the full circumstances are ongoing.

"A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

"As we carry out enquiries, more officers will be in the local area.

"If you have any concerns, please approach these officers.

"Enquiries are ongoing into this incident and anyone with information should contact 101 with reference 3262 of 5 May, 2022."
