A man has been arrested after a two-year-old boy was seriously injured in a motorbike hit-and-run collision. The toddler was taken to hospital from the scene in the Ince area of Wigan on April 13, police said.
Greater Manchester Police later said he suffered serious, but not life-threatening, injuries, although no further update on his condition has been revealed. A 30-year-old man was arrested today - Thursday - on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision.
Police said he was also held on suspicion of having no licence or insurance. The man, who hasn't been identified, remained in police custody for questioning on Thursday evening.
In a statement, GMP Wigan West said on Facebook: "Officers from the Wigan and Leigh District Tasking Team have this afternoon arrested a 30 year old male on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, using a motor vehicle on a road without third party insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance with a driving licence and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision.
"He remains in police custody for questioning. These allegations relate to a road traffic collision that occurred on April 13 on Petticoat Lane, Ince. Emergency services were called at 12.16pm to a report of a collision involving a blue Suzuki GS 500 motorcycle and a pedestrian.
"The pedestrian, a two year old child was taken to hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries. Whilst this male has now been arrested, the investigation remains in its early stages."
A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service added at the time: "We responded to a road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and an infant following a 999 call at 12.20. A boy has been taken to hospital with potentially serious injuries."
Police, meanwhile, issued a fresh appeal for anyone with information about the collision to come forward as they confirmed news of the arrest. No further details have been provided by the force.
