A man has been killed by a falling tree in Sale, police have tragically confirmed.
Officers were called to an incident on Darley Street at around 3:30pm yesterday (October 6) to reports of a fallen tree. At the scene, they found two men had been injured, after other emergency services attended.
One man had injuries that were not life threatening. Sadly, however, a 26-year-old man was pronounced dead a short time later ‘despite the best attempts of those in attendance’, a GMP spokesperson said.

“The family are being supported by specially-trained officers during this difficult time,” a statement from the force added. “Detectives are now appealing for information, including witnesses and any doorbell footage, to help with the investigation to understand the full circumstances."
Detective Inspector Jennifer Reeve of the Trafford division continued: “This is a devastating incident and our thoughts are with the family and friends affected at this difficult time, especially of the man who sadly lost his life. I would also like to thank the public who tried to help at the time immediately after the incident happened, their actions were brave and appreciated by all the emergency services.
“We are continuing with our enquiries at this time to understand how the tree fell and are appealing for anyone in the local area to get in touch if they feel they have any information that may help.”
Speaking to the M.E.N in the aftermath of the incident, one resident said: "I didn't know what had gone on, I just heard a really loud noise earlier this afternoon - and not long after there were loads of police here closing off the road."
Another went on: "I haven't been back long from work. When I got back about two hours ago, I saw everywhere had been blocked off. The back of my house backs onto Osborne Terrace.
"I had no idea what has gone on, but it looks really serious and makes you worried when it is right outside your house."
As another Darley Street resident added: "I heard someone had passed away tonight. It is just so awful and sad to think this can happen so close to home, and my thoughts are with whoever's family is involved in all this."
